Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

$240.00
Sold Out

Does your dog have the basic skills but you want to take it to the next level? Maybe you want to help him take those great manners on the road, into higher-distraction environments?

The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) program provides a perfect framework for training your dog to become a polite member of society.

Plus, the CGC title is a standard prerequisite for many therapy dog certifications and some insurance companies award discounts for dogs with CGC titles.

This 8-week class will prepare you to take the CGC test. The instructor is a CGC Evaluator and the formal test will be held on the last day of class. (You got this!)

Skill work includes:

  • polite interactions with strangers

  • heeling on-leash among people and dogs

  • maintaining your dog’s focus around distractions

  • holding a down-stay

When will classes be held?

A few class sessions are available. Choose from the drop-down menu below.

Where will classes be held?

Classes are held in our training center at 2134 Highway 64 in New Richmond.

Who should come?

Graduates of our Puppy Intermediate or Life Skills 101 classes. If you are not an Upward Hound returning student, please contact me before enrolling. All sizes, all breeds welcome!

The CGC test requires your dog to be handled by a friendly stranger. If your dog is shy around unfamiliar people, you may still take the class and simply opt out of the exam.

(Extremely shy dogs, and dogs who have bitten other dogs or humans, please contact me before enrolling.)

Dogs must be up-to-date on their distemper, parvovirus and rabies vaccinations. Maximum of 6 dogs per class for lots of individualized attention, so register early.

What should I bring?

  1. Your dog, good and hungry.

  2. Really yummy food, cut up into small pea-sized pieces. Think soft food like hotdogs, cheese, chicken, beef, salami, liver. No hard or dry treats, please. Soft training treats are available to purchase.

  3. A bully stick, Kong, or other distracting chew item for break times.

  4. A regular 6-foot leash and a regular buckle collar or harness. No retractable leashes, choke or prong collars, please.

By clicking REGISTER, you confirm that you understand and agree to our terms and conditions.
